Why drink cold coffee in hot weather?
As the temperature rises, we crave cooling relief and an energy boost. Cold brew coffee offers just that: an invigorating caffeine kick and a pleasant refreshment. Cooling hot coffee alters its flavor profile, revealing subtle nuances and aromas that often remain hidden when hot. The cold brew version also provides a welcome change from a hot cup of coffee and will make your taste buds explode.
Which coffee is particularly suitable for making iced coffee?
As you probably know, not all coffee is created equal. Depending on the growing region, variety, processing method, and roasting, even the same green coffee beans can taste different. Fruity coffees are particularly well-suited for cold brew and iced coffee. The aromas and nuances of fruit come through especially well in cold brew, giving you a particularly refreshing kick. These fruity coffees often come from small farms that cultivate special varieties in small quantities, known as microlots. These are then often fermented or processed naturally to extract even more sweetness from the green coffee. Learn more about coffee processing here.
Cold coffee vs. cold brew
But what's the difference between cold coffee and cold brew? It's actually quite simple. Cold coffee is brewed hot and then chilled in the refrigerator or with ice cubes. You can use your preferred brewing method, such as French press , filter , or Chemex – once it's cold, your coffee tastes even more delicious than when it's hot!
Cold brew, on the other hand, is brewed cold. To make it, add 1 liter of cold water to approximately 100g of ground coffee. Mix the two ingredients well in a large container and leave it in a cool, dark place for about 12 to 24 hours. Afterward, filter the mixture and enjoy it over ice.
