La Plata – On the origin of coffee

The Huila region is Colombia's leading coffee producer in both quantity and quality. In the area around La Plata, most coffee farmers (80%) are smallholders with less than 3 hectares of land. This presents a challenge for marketing individual lots but is also a boon for quality control, as the work is rarely outsourced but is primarily carried out by the farmers' family members, significantly simplifying the process.

Mario has been working with the relatively new farmers' association ASORCAFÉ (Asociacion De Productores De Cafe Del Oriente Caucano Asorcafe) for some time now. The farms in the Lot region are located between La Plata (Huila region) and Inzá (Cauca region) and produce very high-quality coffee, which is why Frédéric and Mario are now offering this excellent coffee for the third time. The advantage for the farmers in the ASORCAFÉ group is centralized accounting and the ability to achieve significantly higher coffee prices than with traditional sales to local retailers.
