For Christof, coffee means everything.
CHRISTOF
"Coffee means to me &
even more so for the producers in Guatemala.”
Victor and Christof have known each other for over two years and have collaborated on several coffee projects. Guatemala is Christof's birthplace and, although he currently lives in Germany, it remains his home. Christof's guiding principles are: highest quality, sustainability, and direct trade. For over nine years, he has worked with small-scale farmers in Guatemala, all of whom are members of FEDECOCAGUA RL (Federación de Cooperativas Agrícolas de Productores de Café de Guatemala RL).
"I maintain a close and friendly relationship with the umbrella organization – it is definitely and has long since ceased to be a normal business relationship!"
WHAT DOES CHRISTOM DO FOR US?
FEDECOCAGUA is an umbrella organization of over 140 coffee cooperatives, founded in 1969 by smallholder farmers. Each of these cooperatives is also a co-owner of the umbrella organization. FEDECOCAGUA has been successfully operating in the coffee market for over 40 years and has pioneered fair trade practices. Through FEDECOCAGUA, approximately 20,000 Guatemalan smallholder coffee farmers can efficiently export and market their coffee on the global market without intermediaries, directly through their own umbrella organization. The farmers' assurance that they can rely on their umbrella organization to market their coffee enables them to plan for the long term.
“Many of the cooperatives are directly dependent on the highly volatile price of raw coffee – therefore, it is important for me to offer a predictable perspective by regularly buying their high-quality coffee at good prices and offering it in Germany.”
